At Home with Janey Butler

As we all enjoy a relaxing Easter weekend at home, Design Director Janey gives us an insight into her world, her inspiration and how she and Husband Andy create award-winning luxury homes across the world.

Why, how and when did you start JBI?

JBI Offices11

Janey Butler Interiors was born through the success of our award-winning property development company The Llama Group. Led by my husband and co-founder Andy, the Llama Group has been designing and building award winning architecture for over 20 years. The success of the projects and their interiors led us to forming Janey Butler Interiors in 2014.

What makes The Llama Group different?

We offer a full turnkey service for our clients; from the initial conception and drawings to the finishing touches. Conventionally, people go to different companies when they’re looking to meet their architectural, construction and interior design needs. Our ‘one-stop shop’ model means that everyone is working together from day one. We can do everything – including sourcing a plot and building the house if that’s what the client wants. The client has a single point of contact through the entire process; meaning it’s as stress free and efficient as possible.

At the other end of the scale, we can do a single room or source an individual item of furniture. We are always guided by our clients’ needs.

How would you describe a signature Janey Butler interior?

I am very much inspired by the beauty found in nature. Natural elements such as rare woods, petrified woods, stone & other such raw materials which are all totally unique and have a history embedded into their composition are what I love to introduce always into my design. I love soft calming colours and textures; this coupled with luxury design led pieces, gives our interiors a very clever combination of tranquillity and opulence.

Our RIBA Chartered Architects and Interior Designers are based in the grounds of Capesthorne Hall a truly incredible discreet and exclusive setting. We decided in order to fully showcase our signature attention to detail we really needed an immersive experience for our clients to tangibly interact with, so we created our luxury Showhome. It features a fully functioning B3 Bulthaup Kitchen, award-winning Cinema room and the most incredible bathroom. The entire space is furnished with exquisite pieces by our exclusive suppliers; so clients can really envisage how their home could look and feel.

How do you source the furniture, lighting and accessories for your interiors?

The last couple of years have been dedicated to travelling, research, meetings and searching for the very best international designers and suppliers that complement our existing, unique style and share the same work ethics/ethos. Each year we travel to Milan to Salon de Mobile and to various shows and exhibitions throughout Europe to see first-hand the incredible designs and collections for the year ahead, and we are always looking for unique and innovative design to use in our luxury projects. We’re lucky to not only be exclusive suppliers for some of these amazing brands, but to call the designers close friends too.

Do you have a highlight over the last 6 years?

We’ve won multiple International Awards over the years; including Best Interior Design Private Residence at the International Property Awards and Best Global Smarthome for our Forest Cottage project.

Our projects are often picked up by the National Press; our Knutsford Barn project was named as ‘Britain’s Most Coveted Interior’ by the Daily Mail which was fab.

Do you have any plans for the future?

We’re using this time to get everything together for the launch of our retail website, Janey Butler Collections. The range will consist of a curated collection of accessories and other hand-picked items in the signature JBI style.
